UFO Challenge 2012

Judy L. at Patchwork Times has challenged her readers to finish 12 ufo's during 2012.  You just pick 12 ufo's and number them 1 to 12.  Whatever number is picked on the first of the month is the ufo you work on for the month and hopefully finish. Here are my goals for 2012!

 1. Bali Pop Quilt
2. Blooming 9 Patch -class from about 6 years ago
3. Puzzler, reproduction fabrics - this was a BOM swap in my guild two years ago
4. Dragon Quilt
5. Drunkard's Path - class from Oct. 2010
6. A couple of applique blocks from Kristi Klub thru quilt guild
7. Puzzler, batiks - BOM from a few years ago
8. NY Beauty - Class with Linda J. Hahn from Oct. 2010
9. Turn panel into a top
10. Spinning Stars - only if I can find the pattern
11.Charm square quilt
12. Flannel Quilt
13. Tablerunner

My goal for this is to at least get the tops done.  I would be real pleased to get them quilted and bound too.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to All!

May the new year bring joy and happiness to all.  I hope to be a better blogger this year and post more than I did the last few months.  It has not been very easy since my mom died and I am trying to get more done.  Thank you all for being patient with me.

Stash Report

I'm working on my guild challenge piece currently and so far, I haven't purchased anything for it. I'm not counting what I've used until I'm done with the wall hanging.  I did get some items that were in a 20% off sale.  Some of which was a wool kit for a raffle basket that I'm making for our quilt show.

Stash Report

I have done some sewing this week but it was all by hand and it had already been counted.  I went to a quilt show yesterday with some friends and didn't buy anything.  I just didn't see anything that caught my eye.  Once I figure out how to download pictures from my cell phone I will post them and tell you about the quilt show.

Update on what I've been up too

Well I have the room we moved out of almost emptied (had some stuff in the closet to go thru and decide if it was staying or going) and have vacuumed up all the dust bunnies and pet fur.  I have the paint for the walls and ceiling.  I have been working at my own pace as it will be one of my sewing rooms.  There will be one for the mid arm and some of my fabric.  The other will be a guest room and have my book cases and a bed and dresser.
My daughter stopped by and talked with me and DH and asked to move back in.  She can't afford her house with out her husband.  So being the good parents that we are we said yes, of course.  No mid arm room for me now.  I will try to get the room painted before she moves in.  I wish that everything would fit into one room but the rooms are 10' by 13' and the mid arm would just have fit with the shelving for fabric.  Maybe I'll clean out the basement and put in a dehumidifier and set my sewing room up down there.  The only problem is the stairs are very steep and narrow and I have a very hard time getting up and down them with my cane.

What I've been up to

I haven't done much sewing for the past couple months but I hope that I will get some time now.  I am currently finishing a binding on a table runner and have a few wall hangings that I would like to get done.  I also have a few jelly roll 1600 quilts to quilt and bind.  We will see if there is time before our guild quilt show in October.
Tomorrow is our first guild meeting of the season.  We meet for 10 months out of the year.  I'm the editor of the newsletter and just finished it up and emailed it out.  I also need to update the webpage.
I would also like to get some quilts made for Christmas.  I have patterns and fabric picked for the grandchildren and just need to get going on them.
The master bedroom redo is complete!  After 5 years it is finally done and we have moved to the bigger room.  I tried to convince my DH that it would make a perfect sewing room instead of the 2 smaller bedrooms.  He didn't buy it.  Now I just have to wash everything down in the room that we vacated and get it painted.  Then the hardwood floor can go down.  My mid arm will be set up in there after the third bedroom is painted and hardwood floor is installed.

Back from vacation

DH and I went to Vermont for the long weekend to visit with his family.  What an eye opener.  There are still places where the roads are closed and Black hawks are being used to deliver goods to areas where you still can't get thru.  The NY Thruway was down to one lane in one place and the road didn't look too good, so I'm glad that we were detoured.  It rained real heavy Sunday night with severe thunderstorms.  When we left Monday at lunch time, it was still raining and it was beginning to flood again.  Not needed for sure and with Lee coming up the coast it may get bad again.
Please pray that the rain isn't as bad this time and that there is no more flooding.

What a Week!

It has been a crazy week here.  I haven't done much sewing but I'm working on some craft projects for the quilt guild show in October.  I've been trying to figure out what I could put in the boutique that would sell and no one else would make.  I finally came up with a few Christmas ornaments that I used to make as a teenager.  I finally found some directions and I picked up most of my supplies.  Hopefully on Monday I will be able to show some pictures of finished items.
I got some bad news on Friday afternoon.  I had taken my car to a good friend who is a mechanic and had him look at my car.  It was leaking gas and DH doesn't do gas leaks.  Well he calls me back and tells me to find a new car.  Apparently the frame rusted out and the only thing holding it together was my trailer hitch.  I'm very lucky that it didn't fall apart when I was driving it.  So now DH and I are trying to decide whether to lease or buy a new vehicle.  I was thinking about just getting a decent used one.  DH isn't sure what he wants to do.  I want a new crossover type vehicle and he wants me to get another car.  We will have to figure this out soon as I don't want to be without a vehicle during the winter months.

Stash Report

I have done some sewing but nothing that I can claim as it has already been counted.  Hopefully soon I will have something to show and add to my counts.  It has been very hot here in Pennellville and I limit my sewing time to the mornings when I can.  There have been power flickers in the afternoons and I don't like to have my machine on when they happen.

Deven is home!

Deven came home last night.  The Doctor's released him and said to keep him on a very strict feeding schedule.  He gets 3 - 4 ozs. every 3 hours.  He is to be woken up if he is sleeping.  He gained a pound while he was in the hospital.  He still has some more testing to be done, but he is home.  We are resting a little easier now.
It is hot outside and I don't even want to go out.  I'm not sure how you in the southern parts of the country handle all the heat.  We normally don't get 95+ degree days here to often.  We have had a bunch this year.  Tomorrow its supposed to be 100 with a heat index of 110.  The humidity is supposed to be real high also.  I will be staying in the air conditioned house, I have the feeling.  DH is on vacation and he can run in and out with the dogs all day.

Stash Report

I haven't had a chance to do much this week.  I still haven't finished that quilt for my grandson yet.  I just purchased a similar kit for one of the babies.  His mom likes monkeys  and Jo Ann Fabrics had a quilt kit just like the dinosaurs but with monkeys.  I will make that up and get it to Deven within the next few days.  Deven is in the hospital as he isn't gaining weight and the doctors can't figure out why.  I have been spending time with his big brothers and talking to mom on the phone.  They don't want a bunch of us up there while he is there.  I get to stay home and worry instead!  I guess that I will do some sewing to keep my mind occupied.

Design Wall(Table)

I have something to show this week!  I'm working on a quilt for one of the grandsons who will be 2 at the end of the month.  He loves Dinosaurs!  I found a kit at Jo Anne's that had dinosaur fabric, so I picked it up.  It only makes a 30 x 36 inch quilt but I figure that is just the right size for him to drag around.  I don't like the fact that it doesn't have binding with it.  I substituted rust colored cotton for the bright orange satin that was with it.  I have enough left to do the binding.  Once I finish putting it together tomorrow, I hope.

I have also been working on my applique block, just need to find the berries and put them on.  I've got the next block pressed and I'm deciding what fabrics to use for the heart.  This is a kit from a class I took in April right after my mom died.  I have just picked it back up and I'm trying to get it done.

Stash Report

Well I did some cutting, and some sewing until we lost power of Friday.  I haven't worked on anything since.  I did cut out a baby quilt and I'm deciding if I'm going to bind it or just follow the directions and stitch it pillow case style.  If I add the binding I will add it to next weeks total.  I plan on finishing this quilt today.  I also have another one pulled and it just needs to be cut so that I can sew while it is raining tomorrow and Tuesday.

Stash Report Update!

My daughter was going thru my blog and pointed out a mistake.  I lost 3 yards someplace!  In May I was up to 30 yards used to date and in June I went back to 27.  I guess I can add those three yards back in.  I never even noticed that I had gone backwards.  So my updated stash is:
Used this Week:              0 yards
Used year to Date:         30.75 yards

Indigo Challenge and Color for July

I decided not to rush and quilt my indigo challenge piece.  I am still trying to figure out how I want to quilt it.  So for right now I will consider it done.

The next color is blue and I have lots of blue.  I see a blue and white quilt being made at this point.  Here is a picture of the fabrics that I have set aside to work with.
One of the furry children decided to help as I snapped the picture.

What I've been up to

Today I went to Jo Morton's Little Women Club.  There are 5 of us in the group.  We looked at the tops that we had made(see yesterdays post for a picture).  It is amazing how each one of us comes up with very different tops from some of the same fabrics.  I was very good while I was there and didn't buy anything.  There is a book in my future though.
Right now I'm waiting for a thunderstorm to pass.  It sounds pretty severe to me.  I was getting a little concerned about how hard the wind was blowing and if one of the trees would come done on the house.  The sky is getting brighter even as I type so maybe it is just a quick storm.
I hope to work on quilting my top later tonight and tomorrow.  I want it done for the quilt guild show in October.

I'm trying to get various projects completed over the summer for the show.  Hopefully I'll be able to get everything done that I want to.  I didn't find my UFO challenge so I will substitute another one that doesn't need a whole lot of work done on it.

Design Wall (Table) Monday

Yeah!  I made a design wall on Monday!  I know that it has been a while.  Today on the table is a pattern from Jo Morton, Little Women Club 10.  The top is done and I used her indigo fabrics for most of it.  The only one that doesn't have indigo in it is the red.  I was feeling patriotic. Hopefully I can get it quilted by the end of the week so that it will count toward the monochromatic challenge.

These are the fabrics that I picked up a few weeks ago at the quilt show at RIT.  I'm trying to design a pattern to turn this into a wall hanging for the guild quilt show in October.  The dragons will be a quilt for my oldest grandson.

Stash Report

What a busy week!  I did manage some sewing this week though.  I'm working on a wall hanging/table topper from Jo Morton.  Actually I'll be killing two birds with one stone with this one, as it also has mostly Indigo in it.  That will take care of my Indigo challenge this month.  Now if I could only find my UFO challenge.

What I've been up to

I know that it is Tuesday but I have been busy and haven't done any sewing again this week.  I've been running the children and grandchildren to doctors and lawyers and all sorts of places.  Saturday, I watched Jareth during the day and didn't get his picture!  I'm trying to keep pictures of the babes to watch them grow.  Sunday I helped to set the pool up only to find out that the mice had chewed a hole in it.  It goes up in the rafters of the garage.  Normally nothing happens to it but this year the darn mice had a ball.  They built nests in the garden tractor, and the push lawn mower. DH is still going through equipment to see what else they built nests into.  Monday I went to PT and when I got home did some house work.  Hand dishes and the likes.  The dogs are shedding so I swiffer of sweep every day.  After a brief nap I went and picked up Nikki and Jayden.  Jayden had a kindergarten graduation program.  The children sang and danced for their parents and the kids each received a diploma with their picture in cap and gown.  They are so cute.  I hope that now that school is half days and every one is healthy (currently) I can sit and do some sewing.  I miss the steady rhythm of my machine.

Stash Report

Another week of no sewing.  I need to take some time and get to my machine.  It was too warm most of the week.  It feels like we went from winter to summer.  High 80's and high 90's all week.  It cooled off a little yesterday, but it was still muggy.  Today it is cool and nice in between the rain.  I plan on working on my guild block tonight and some items for my secret sister at guild.  Depending on how things go, I'll try to show them tomorrow.

Stash Report

I haven't done any sewing again this week.  I did go to a quilt show in Rochester, NY at RIT.  It had almost 1000 quilts.  I hope that the pictures that I took come out.  I'm not a photographer.  DH has been in the past and takes beautiful pictures.  He is working with me to take better pictures.
I did do some shopping while I was at the show.  Not a whole lot just 7-3/4 yards.

Busy, busy, busy!

It has been crazy here for the past week and a half!  I ran new babies and mommies to doctors appointments every day last week.  With the long holiday weekend that was very hot for so early in the season.  We normally don't get 90+ degree days until July and August.  I prefer when it creeps up gradually and not slaps me in the face with the hot and muggy weather.
My daughter and her husband split up.  It is for the better, I'm sure.  I'm watching Gwyn for her so that she can get things done and decide what she is doing.  She is supposed to start college in the fall, so we are giving her all the support we can.
I haven't done any sewing and I miss the therapy.  It is one way that I work thru any problems that I'm dealing with.   There just hasn't been time.  I need to fit some in soon.  I still have to quilt the baby quilts for the new grandsons.  The tops are made, I just haven't had time to quilt them.  I want to get some baby clothes made for these grandsons too.

Stash Update

Grandson is here!

Jareth David has arrived!  He was born at 12:02am this morning.  He weighs 7 lbs and 2 ozs and is 20 inches long.  I will post pictures later today after I go to the hospital and meet him.  Congratulations Tim and Anne Marie!

Another top finished!

I finished the second Jelly Roll 1600 top.  The LQS has 10 strips prepacked and give you a deal if you buy 6 packages at a time.  I picked up 6 and used 4 in this top.  Wow!  It is bright and cheerful, perfect for a child or someone who needs some cheering up.  I hope to get working on the quilting soon.

Design Wall (Table) Monday

I had planned on showing the jelly roll 1600 and walker bags that I had gotten done yesterday.  It wasn't meant to be, I did zero sewing but I did get to see my newest grandson come into this world.  He is 7 lbs and 7 ozs.  The hospital where he was born doesn't do the length as they want the baby's pediatrician to do that.   When I left last night he didn't have a name yet.  Maybe today Tony and Nikki will agree on a name.

I'm back to my machine!

Wednesday night I sewed jelly roll strips end to end.
Thursday, I sewed them together following the jelly roll 1600 pattern.  The top is cute and big!  I can't believe how big it is.  My son is holding it up so I can take a couple of pictures.

It's the same quilt just rotated 180 degrees.  It looks like arrows in places.  Its about 56" by 65", a good size throw for the back of the couch.  I hope to quilt it this weekend.  I also have some pillow cases to make for quilt guild.  Tuesday is charity night and I may make another one of this quilt in kid prints.

What I've been working on

I started working on my applique.  I finished the vine and put 2 more leaves on it.  I hope to add a little each day and watch the block grow.  I hope to have the whole thing done by October for our quilt guild show.  We will see how I progress thru the spring and summer.
I just try to get through the day and not worry about any thing else.  It seems to help.  I do need to start getting baby items ready for the new babes.  I'm thinking maybe a few layette items for each one.  I will also make up some sleep sacks.  I used to love them for my kids.
Off to plan dinner and maybe do a little more sewing.

Guild stuff and dinner

Nothing to show today.  I'm reading email and trying to get my guild newsletter and web page caught up.  I guess that it is quilting related just nothing to show.  I hope to do some hand work tonight.
I'm posting a recipe that the family likes and is super easy to make.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Ingredients:
1 pkg bow tie pasta (12 - 16 oz.)
2 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 lb sweet Italian sausage
1/2 lb hot Italian sausage
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1/2 cup diced onion (optional)
3 cloves garlic minced or 1 tsp garlic powder
1 (28 oz) can Italian style plum tomatoes, drained and coarsely chopped
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
dash salt up to 1/2 tsp salt
3 Tbsp minced fresh parsley

Directions:
1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil.  Cook pasta in boiling water for 8 10 minutes, or until al dente; drain.

2.  Heat oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat.  Remove sausage from casing.  Cook sausage and pepper flakes until sausage is evenly browned.  Stir in onion and garlic, and cook until onion is tender.  Stir in tomatoes, cream, and salt.  Simmer until mixture thickens, 8 - 10 minutes.

3. Stir cooked pasta into sauce, and heat through.  Sprinkle with parsley.
from Allrecipes.com

I don't add the onion unless I use scallions or onion powder.  I also use garlic powder or minced garlic.  Instead of plum tomatoes we use 2 (14 oz) cans diced tomatoes as we always have them on hand.  The original recipe called for all mild sausage, but we like it better with the mix.

Design Wall(Table)

I am still working on the binding of the table runner from two weeks ago.  I also took a class with Kristin Steiner on the Sunday after mom passed away.  My sisters and dad insisted that I go.  It is hand applique and I'm enjoying the hand work.  I am very slow at hand applique and I hope that my speed will increase with time.

I haven't worked on this since the class, but I hope to soon.

I hope that soon I will start feel like working on the baby quilts as they will be needed soon.

Stash Report

Nothing used this week and nothing purchased either.  I'm trying to figure out how I will add what I'm inheriting from my mother's stash within the next few weeks to my counts or if I need to add them as she purchased them and my sisters and I will be dividing them up.  This has been very hard to do.  My one sister lives in NC and the other lives within a twenty minute drive. The NC sister will be coming and going for a week at a time.  We have started looking at mom's stash and are going to divide it equally.  We are taking items home to finish that mom started.  Rough times ahead for all of us as we go thru mom's things and start deciding what will happen to things.  Dad wants nothing to do with her sewing room.  He will not let her new machine go though.  I think that he should keep it there as he knows how to sew and can use it to do repairs.

Thoughts and trying to move on

I'm trying to get back into life and get things done again.  We have to move forward after the sudden death of my mom.  She had her hand in a great many places trying to help.  She had worked with Camp Fire, Sunday School at Pennellville United Methodist Church (where she was also a trustee and helped with maintenance).  She helped with marching band and color guard while we were in school.  She worked at the food pantry and she was a member of Twins and Triplets of CNY.  They are a number of other things that she did as well but I will not list them all.  She and my father loved to travel with their camper.and went to many places.  They had been to Alaska on a cruise a year ago.  She had wanted to go again.  Dad was receptive to the idea.  He may go just to honor her wishes.  He has told us already that he will travel and go camping this year with out her and I am fine with that.  He is starting to get on with his life and I'm proud of him for it.  He knows that if he doesn't stay active he will join her and he has decided that he isn't ready yet.
DH has gotten a new motorcycle.  A 1998 Honda Shadow Aero.  It is Dark green and cream and very sharp looking.  I wish that I could ride with him but my knee will not tolerate it.  Some day the darn thing will be replaced and I will walk properly again.  Until that time, I just keep trying to lose weight and keep the muscles as strong as I can.
Hopefully I will start working on the babies quilts again soon.  I want to finish them before the babes arrive.  It may be close as they are both having contractions on and off.  Neither one of the girls has felt well this week but I think part of it is the fact that Grandma died.  They both were quite fond of my mom.  She treated them as if they were her biological grand child and not an in law.  I have been trying to do the same.  Mom had items set aside for both of them and I will finish the sewing that she started.  They both need layettes for the babes and mom had been sewing up outfits for them.  I will finish up what she started and add a few more items to what is there.

My mother's death

My mother passed away peacefully in her sleep yesterday.  She had gone to womens group on Monday with my Aunt.  Tuesday she went to her stitcher's group with the same Aunt.  Wednesday she got up and felt weak.  She had vomiting and the runs.  Dad told her to sit in her chair and he would keep an eye on her.  She asked for some toast and dad made it for her. She had maybe two bites.  She snoozed and was sick on and off all day.  She asked dad for some pudding around 5:00pm and he brought it to her.  He asked her on and off all evening if she was going to eat her pudding.  She kept telling him that in a bit she would eat.  She fell a sleep in her chair.  Dad didn't want to wake her so he went to bed.  He got up in the morning and she was still right there. He didn't want to disturb her so he did his morning stuff.  At 8:30 he went to open the curtains and he put his hand on her arm.  She was cold.  He called my Aunt and she went over and said the same thing.  He had already called 911.  He then called me and tried to get hold of my sisters.  I called my sisters and my own children.  Let them know that Grandma had passed.  I then headed up to my parent's house. I will try to blog more after we get every thing situated.

Binding

I'm still working on the binding of the table runner that I made.  Sewing the binding down is getting very hard for me.  I think that it is time for new glasses.  I am finding that my eyes get very tired.  I am also having a hard time seeing in the distance and find myself peering under my glasses to see things close up.  Working on the computer is also hard on my eyes.  They get very dry.  I had plugs in my ducts to create tears but I'm guessing that they have stopped working.  If I use a magnifier light than I don't have any problems and can work for quite a while.  Unfortunately I lost the base to my lamp and need to find it for a hand applique class that I'm taking on Sunday.  If I don't find it, I will have to buy a new one.  I might be able to have one of my DS's make a new base for me.  I'll see what I can come up with.

Design Wall(Table)

I have something on my design wall this week!  A table runner that I have been working on.  I'm still working on the binding.  I have put 2 different borders on this runner and didn't like either one. So I'm not putting any border on it and I'll just leave the sashing as a border.

I like how the back came out.
I also went to a quilt show over the weekend.  Bought a book and no fabric.

Monochromatic Challenge and UFO Challenge

The monochromatic color for the month is orange.  I'll have to see what I've got.
The UFO for the month is #4.  That is my paint chip challenge from my guild.  I have it started.  I just need to sew the blocks together and get it quilted.  Hopefully it won't take too long for me to finish.  To see what others are working on for their challenges, visit Judy L's Patchwork Times.

Stash Report

Not much change in the stash this week.  I did get the table runner almost done so I will count that this week in the stash.  I need to finish baby quilts as I don't think that the DIL'S will be making it to the end of the month with these babies.  I finally got an idea of what the youngest son wants for his baby. The other I just need to finish.  I have started 2 for the youngest and DIL shot both of them down, as she doesn't like green and she doesn't like bright colors.  I'll pick up another blue Bali pop and make the same quilt as for the older son's baby.  I will quilt them differently is the only thing and the Bali pops are different.  I will finish the other two and hang onto them for future baby shower gifts or give them to project Linus when they are done.

Another week has gone by and I haven't done a lot of sewing but I did manage to get some time in.  I have a table runner started and I have started to quilt the baby quilt that I finished the top for last month.  I need to get the 2nd one finished so that I can count that one.

Stash Report

I have been busy this week and haven't sewn much at all.  My DD is moving into a house and she has been busy packing and cleaning to get ready for the move.  I get the baby.  She is cutting teeth and won't take a nap lately.  I just don't get a whole lot done when she is cranky.
We also just found out that she has a wheat allergy on top of her milk allergy.  This explains why she seems to be behind in her development.  The doctor told us that because her tummy hurts, she's not doing the things that she should be like reaching for people.  It strains her tummy and it explains why she cries a lot.  They are going to try some meds and see if that will help as they also think that she has reflux.  It would explain a lot of the problems that she has had since she was born.  Stephanie had Early Intervention at the house and the baby starts therapy in a few weeks.
No sewing and no shopping equals zero in and zero out.

Design Wall(Table)

I'm still working on the baby quilt for my future grandson.  Please see the post from last week's design wall for a picture as it hasn't changed at all.
I have been busy with the kids all week and then on Sunday and Monday we had a snow storm.  If you have been watching the weather channel, you have been hearing about Syracuse, NY and all the snow that we received.  Yeah I live 17 miles north of Syracuse and yes we got another 12 + inches of snow.  4th snowiest winter on record currently with 173 inches.  Just 20 more and we will beat the current record.  Guess what we are supposed to get later in the week.  More snow!  Hopefully we will get 20 inches and then it can stop snowing for the season.  I'm ready for spring and warmer weather.

Stash Report

I know that it is Tuesday and not Sunday but it has been crazy here for the past few days.  I am putting up my stash report now and then I will do my design wall.  I added 2 - 3/4 yards to my stash.  It was a fat quarter bundle from my friends for my birthday last week.  I also received a new ruler called a Tucker Trimmer.  I will have to try it out and as it has a neat pattern with it.

The top is almost done!  I need to trim the edges and quilt it.  I did get the top done for the UFO challenge though.

Stash Report

Well not much to report as I have been working on UFO #10.  I am hoping to get it to a flimsy by tomorrow.  I just have to sew the sections together.  I did buy a back for it as the one I had pulled from my stash wasn't big enough and my son hated the color.  Seeing that the quilt is for his son, I should try to get something that he likes so that he will use the quilt for the baby.  I picked up 3 yards for the baby quilt and only need 1-1/2 yards for the back.  They like the color so maybe tomorrow I can start quilting it.

Design Wall(Table)

I've been working on my UFO #10.  It is a baby quilt for one of my grandsons that are due in May.  The blocks are made and I still have to put the strips together and put the top together.  I have decided to quilt it myself with a maze pattern that will keep daddy and baby amused for a while.
Please visit Judy L's Patchwork Times for more design wall fun.

Stash Report

I'm still working on UFO #10.  I just have to sit and stitch the top together.  I will quilt it myself, I think instead of sending to my sister and her long arm machine.
As for my stash report, I used a jelly roll and didn't buy anything.

What I'm working on

I've been working on item #10 for the UFO challenge.  I did change the numbers a bit as I need to get these baby quilts done before the 1st of May.  I started with a Bali Pop called Berry Bliss for the 1st grandson due and a pattern from Moda Bake Shop called Awesome.  I plan on sewing it together this afternoon.  It is mostly cut out and goes together fairly easy from what I can tell.  I will have to buy a backing as I don't have a lot of backing fabrics at the moment.  I may make the same quilt but in a different Bali Pop or a LQS made jelly roll for the 2nd grandson that is due in May.  I will have to check with my future DIL and see if the fabric is too flowery for the new baby.  I didn't realize it was that flowery until I started cutting the strips.

This will be the binding.  The bottom strip is more green than shown.
The upper picture will be the squares and the lower will be the rows.  The two light colored strips are for the center blocks.

Design Wall (Table) Monday

Now that I finally feel better, I am working on fleece pants for my 2 future DIL's. ( I would love to show the fabric that I'm using but the camera battery needs to charge.  I will try to update later.)  They are both pregnant and due in May.  So I will have 2 new grandsons within 2 weeks of each other.  I am changing my numbers for Judy L's Patchwork Times UFO challenge as I need to get two baby quilts done.  I think that I will be doing Jelly roll quilts. One is getting Berry Bliss Bali Pop and the other is getting Green Tea or Mint Mocha Bali Pop.  I just need to find a pattern.  I am off to the Moda Bake Shop and see what catches my attention.  To see more design walls visit Judy L's Patchwork Times.

Stash Report

Not much to report again this week again.  I took my daughter shopping and she bought a bunch of stuff.  I didn't buy anything though.  I almost caved when I was looking at the silk half yard pieces.  They felt so good to touch.  Then I remembered how much of a pain that silk is to sew from when I was making my own clothes.  I loved to wear silk blouses.  I hated to make them, though I did for a couple of years.

We are sick again

I watched 2 of the grand kids today.  Not much going on as they wouldn't take a nap at the same time.  DH brought home a stomach bug again and guess who got sick this afternoon.  Hopefully the kids don't come done with it.  As soon as I started feeling blah I called respective parents and had them pick up the children.  Now I'm thinking about getting in my extra warm jammies and going to bed without supper.  I hope to feel better tomorrow.  I really want to feel better so that I can sit and work on quilting that needs to be done.

Blah Thursday

Not much going on as it is sooo cold here.  The high was 15 with a wind chill of 0.  Not a good day to go outside. I have been reading other blogs and sleeping all day.  Haven't been feeling good since the bug last week.  I'm hoping to sew tomorrow.  Hubby is coming down with something also.  I told him to stay away from me, as I don't want it.

Stomach Bug

My DD brought us a stomach bug.  We found out after she went to the hospital and had to be re-hydrated.  I watched the baby while she was there and low and behold the baby has it too.  Grandma and Grandpa are next I'm sure.  My son that lives with me also has it.  He came down with it over night.  He called and thanked his sister for sharing.  Her comment was "That's what sister's are for."  He doesn't appreciate her sentiments and neither do mom and dad.  Hopefully I will start feeling better soon and can start sewing.  While I wait, I am working on the guild newsletter.  I hope to get that done today and sent out to the members later today.  I'm also wiping everything down with Clorox wipes hoping to kill the bug and stop its spread.

Our cats

Fritz curled up on the bed.  He is a Bengal.  He loves to play fetch and bring you his mousy to throw.

Nibbles is the fat tiger one and Otter is the white and tiger one.  He likes to play in the water.  He also likes to sleep in the bathroom sink.

Preacher is Siamese and Maine Coon.  He is very talkative like the Siamese. He is getting on in years,  we think he is about 15 years old.
This is our old lady Shezel.  I didn't name her.  I took her in when her family lost their home a few years ago.  She is 21 or 22 years old and is starting to slow down finally.  Her name is a combination of She-Ra and Zelda.  Our last kitty is a tuxedo kitty and will not come out of her hiding spot for a picture.
All our kitties are rescues or from people who had to give them up for various reasons.  Our dogs are the same way.

Dog Pile

Here is a great picture of 4 out of the five dogs sleeping in front of the door waiting for dad to get home.  This occurs every day for about an hour while we wait for dad.

Design Wall (Table) Monday

Currently my yellow challenge is on the bed.  It is long enough to cover the top.  I am trying to figure out what to use for the border.  I will have to go buy it as I don't have any yellow pieces big enough to do them.

I have to run to Jo Ann's and get some steam a seam 2 for the totes.  I thought there was more in the box than there was.  I'm not looking forward to going out as it is currently 5 degrees out.  Hopefully it will start to warm up soon.
I'm trying a new recipe for dinner tonight.  Bow ties with sausage, tomatoes and cream.  Hopefully DH will like it.  I will post the recipe if we like it.
All is quiet here currently while we wait for the storm.  It should start snowing some time tonight.  We are only supposed to get about 18 inches to 2 feet total.  That's just enough to be a pain.  They are also calling for high winds which will cause a lot of problems around here with the drifting.
Please check out all the other design walls at Judy L's Patchwork Times

Sewing Saturday

Today I'm working on my yellow challenge.  I am showing just part of it as I will be working on the strips.  I still haven't decided on sashing and borders yet.  I want to get all the rows done first.  Then I will finish my totes.

Shopping

What a day!  One of my guild sister's called and asked if I wanted to help pick the fabric that is being used for charity night at guild on the 8th.  Sure, I won't have to do anything but pick out fabric.  Easy, I thought.  Well, my daughter called and she is sick, so I took the baby.  Gwyn loves to go with Grandma.  She is a little over 6 months and likes just about everything.  So off we went to the LQS.  She is all smiles.  Grandma is not, as her stroller is so big that I can't turn in some areas of the store.  We did get a bunch of men type fabric for the guild and some real cute children's fabric.   This year we are making walker bags, fleece shrugs, pillowcases and burp cloths.  We will have birthday cake and sew.  It should be a great meeting.

Cutting Today

Today I finished cutting out the strips needed for my yellow monochromatic challenge.  Tomorrow I plan on sitting and sewing the top together.  I will be happy just to get the top done for Judy L's challenge.  I hope to be able to quilt it as well, but we will see what I have time for as I will be doing this on my home machine.  I hope to have some pictures tomorrow.

Design Wall (Table) Monday

I've been cutting fabric for my monochromatic challenge.

I also cut out one tote for the UFO challenge.  One more tote to cut and sew and the UFO challenge will be done.

Quilting Today

Today I met up with members of my guild and we worked on the guild raffle quilt.  The blocks are paper pieced.  Today we laid out the blocks and put them together.  I wish that I had taken my camera and taken some pictures.  We just have to remove all the paper now and stitch the sashing and cornerstones together.  A group of us are meeting on Tuesday night to remove the papers, so I will take my camera and take some pictures.  I am waiting patiently for this quilt to be done.  It is batiks and has a applique border that members of the guild are working on.  I will try to find the name of the quilt and start working on a label.

Hubby's Coat

I'm still working on hubby's coat that the puppy chewed.  What a pain in the butt it has been.  I've done the cuffs 2-3 times each and still have the waist band and zipper to do.  I want to get this done as I have other things to work on such as my totes for the UFO challenge and my monochromatic quilt.  I have the pattern picked and just need to get time to work on it.

Dog Coat is Done!

Here is Riki wearing her new coat.  She doesn't like to wear it unless it is really cold.  She will get a chance this weekend as the highs are forecast to be in the single digits.  I finished this last night but couldn't get a picture until today.  This coat should keep her really warm as it is 2 layers of fleece and a layer of cotton batting.  I copied her old coat to make sure that it would fit.  I think she will like it once she has worn it a few times and it smells like her.
Riki is a boxer/bull dog mix we think.  She was sorely abused when she arrived to me.  We nursed her back to health and she is a happy part of our crew.

Cleaning and Grandbabies

I spent part of the morning exercising on the Wii Fit after I found batteries that would fit it.  Hubby took the ones that fit it to work.  I swiped some from 2 of the many remotes hanging around the house.  Why we have 9 remotes that we don't use anymore I don't know.  He has them all lined up in the entertainment center.
The grand babies were here today also.  Surprise Mom, can you babysit for a few hours while I run to the store?  DD needs to learn that mom has things that she has to get done too.  I did get started on my spring cleaning while the kids slept, briefly.   I already told DH that I was sewing tonight as I have tried to for the past few days and it just hasn't happened.
Dinner is almost done and the chicken smells wonderful.

Design Wall (Table) Monday week 3

Today I'm working on a new coat for one of the dogs.  Deedle decided to play with this one.  Riki is getting lime green for her next one.  I will try to post some pictures of her wearing it after I get it made.
I am also going to wash my yellow fabrics today.  I picked up some more and discovered that a few of them bled, so I will toss them thru the washer on gentle and then dry them.  I'm still trying to decide what I will be doing for sashing.   As you can see I have a helper.
