Stash Report

I've been sewing!  I'm working on Linda's quilt and the top is almost done.  I'm counting it as done as I still need to put one strip on.  I ran out of the gray thread that I was using and had to run to JoAnn's.  Tomorrow I will sew that last strip on and take some pictures.   I'm debating on the backing fabric so I will count that next week.I have a few pieces that may work.

Used this Week:                       .5 yards
Used year to Date:                    3 yards

Quilting Day

I'm actually sewing today!  Yesterday I spent the day ironing and cutting.  My friend Linda, her husband of 13 months is terminal with brain cancer and he has taken a turn for the worse.  I'm making the top from my friend Lisa's stash as she had pink. Linda's favorite colors are pink and teal.  Lisa had fabric that filled the bill.  I found a pattern that Lisa and I liked. Its from Quilt Trends summer 2013.  The pattern is "Chain Reaction".  I'm making it smaller to make it a hug quilt for Linda.

I haven't taken a picture yet of the floral that I'll be using for the wide strips.  I have them hanging in the closet to keep the cats off of them as Linda is allergic to cats.  When I  get all done with the quilt I'll send it thru the wash.  Lisa has a mid arm and offered to quilt it.  I took her up on her offer.  I'll take more pictures as I sew up the blocks and post them later today or tomorrow.  The only fabric that came out of my stash is the binding, so I will post that on Sunday.  More later.

Quiet Friday

I'm sitting here reading blogs while I wait for the furnace guy to get here.  He is only half an hour late already.  I have things that I want to do but we need heat and soon!  At the start of the heating season we have "Bob the Furnace Guy" come out and give the furnace a tune up and make sure everything is all set for the season.  We have discovered that it cuts down on the number of times that we have to call during the season.

I have picked up a few quilting magazines in the past few weeks and I'm seeing a lot of modern quilts in the magazines.  I'm thinking about trying my hand at one in the next few months.  I'm still working on a pattern for the applique that I want to do.  The way things are going I'll have it done for next year.

My daughter just called and asked me to watch my granddaughter this afternoon and evening.  I guess that it won't be a quiet Friday after all.

Guild newsletter is done!

I just finished the guild newsletter.  I'm glad that it is done for the month.  Now I'm off to get some groceries and possible this afternoon I can work some more on the applique idea that I'm trying to design for fall.  I'm leaning toward something that can be used for the entire fall season and not just the holiday aspect.  I may make it reversible so that if I get tired of one side than I can flip it over and look at the other for awhile.  I may even try to start sewing today or tomorrow as I really want to get this done.  I may even try machine applique as I have always hand appliqued.  A new skill that may come in handy I think.  I'm also working on my machine quilting on my Bernina as my Tin Lizzy is not set up currently.  Soon I hope.  I'm working on getting my rooms set back up to be sewing rooms again instead of bedrooms.  It looks like it may take some time as I want to paint and upgrade lighting.  Hardwood floors are going in also.  I don't plan on children/ grandchildren moving in again for a long time(I hope).
I will try to find the instructions I wrote up of the tissue holders that we made for guild and post them in the next few days.  I think that they would make a great little stocking stuffer. They are quick to make and don't use much fabric.  Two fat quarters(depending on size) will make 6 to 9 tissue holders. I had some fat, fat quarters so I got 9 out of a couple.
